A Working Week

Workiversary.

Do you still remember your very first day on the job?

Each September 24th, my memory automatically rewinds and hits ‘play’. It wasn’t just a new job, but a new life. I had recently finished my degree, moved out of my parents’ house, relocated to a different city, and moved in with roommates (most of whom I didn’t know).

It was partly exciting and partly scary, which happen to be criteria I use to this day to determine whether or not something is worth doing.

Up until about a year prior to that new beginning, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do work-wise. I was nearing the end of a combo Business/IT degree program, a course of study I assumed would provide a well-rounded background, and increase my chances of landing a decent gig.

At that time of my life, I never thought about work in terms of passion, engagement, and impact. I never asked myself, “What do I want to do?” or “How do I make a difference?”

Experience Your Life.

That’s why I think ‘Experience Your Life’ promises to be a truly amazing and inspiring event for hundreds of people just starting out on their journey.

The Expo is on Saturday, Sept 29th, and their tagline is ‘Employment. Entrepreneurship. Empowerment’. It’s a great opportunity for youths of today to meet and interact with leaders from many different walks of life, and to learn more about how they might change the world. If you’re interested in learning more, please check out their website. Tickets are going fast, in fact, they might already be sold out by the time you read this! Experience Your Life

I’m also fortunate enough to be attending the invite-only dinner the previous evening. Unlike the Expo (which will be a massive event), the dinner will be a much more intimate experience, and an opportunity to get to know some interesting and remarkable people.

Get Involved.

The spirit of events like ‘Experience Your Life’ happens to align with Emerston’s mission, as well as our upcoming project (launching in March 2019). One of the key objectives for the new project is to not only drive change, but to provide opportunities for others to drive change as well.

I’ve found that most people want to be involved in various movements, causes, and other initiatives…or maybe even start their own. They just don’t know how and where to begin. We’re going to help alleviate that difficulty.

Speaking of getting involved…I have a single ticket available for Experience Your Life!

To qualify, send an e-mail to NigelOliveira@emerstongroup.com (by Wednesday, Sept 26 at 5pm EST). Please be sure to put ‘EYL’ in the subject line, and include a blurb explaining why you would like the ticket! A winner will be selected and notified by 9pm Wednesday. Please note that only admission is included in this offer…all other expenses and logistics (including travel to and from Mississauga) are up to you!

I’ll be posting each Tuesday about my experiences, observations, and thoughts related to the project launch, as well as other related and/or assorted goings-on. I’m hoping that you will join me, and that you find it an interesting, entertaining, and helpful journey!  Please share this blog with others who might find it useful, such as entrepreneurs, small business owners, bloggers, program/project management professionals, speakers, and anyone else you think just might be plain curious! Thanks for your time, and here’s looking forward to the next step! Nigel
