Be The Change, Be It Now

Please join me each week to read about experiences, observations, and thoughts related to the project launch (March 2019). Please like, comment, and share this blog to help get the word out. Thanks for your time, and here’s looking forward to the next step! Nigel

A special shout out to Jessica Santonato for her contribution to this week’s post!

Thanks to everyone who has already applied for the current round of Emerston’s Micro-Project initiative! There is less than one week left to apply, so don’t wait! It’s easy and quick, and all the details can be found in last week’s blog post: Emerston Micro-Project Details

The First Micro-Project.

I consider myself fortunate to continue to meet so many remarkable people. People who have shown incredible courage, and have chosen to find a way to use their experiences to help others. Jessica Santonato certainly fits that bill.

Jessica and I met during the previous run of the Micro-Project initiative. As things turned out, she ended up being the inaugural grant recipient…and deservedly so.

In Jessica’s own words:

“I decided to apply because I had a vision of bringing mothers together for an intimate evening but I didn’t have the funds to do so at the time, which was heartbreaking and frustrating for me. I knew that my event would be transformational and I wanted to give back to women somehow after all the adversities I’d been through. The application process was easy- there wasn’t much to think about except being authentic! After finding out I won, I was ecstatic because it meant the women who attended the event would benefit. I was able to use the money towards a beautiful event space. It was a sold-out event and a major success!! Women were in tears and loved the event so much that they asked when the next one was! I think the micro-funding is wonderful because it helped show me that I can make a huge impact without having to shell out thousands of dollars. The Emerston Group cares about making a positive impact in the world. If you have even the slightest nudge of an idea that you know can help others, apply because you have more to gain than you do to lose.”

Just Getting Started

And Jessica’s not even close to being done yet…she is also working on a new book! Here’s a summary:

“Just shy of her ten-year wedding anniversary, Jessica faces a life or death decision: succumb to the destruction of her husband trying to kill her or vow to create a better life for herself and her children from that day forward.

Joy Is Your Only Job is a raw and gripping memoir of Jessica Santonato as the self-confessed wife of a gang leader and career criminal, how she left the marriage after a brutal attack that nearly killed her, and then transformed her life in ways she never imagined. This is a tale that hits at the hearts and minds of every reader going or has been through deep trauma and adversity to transform their pain into a place of pure joy.”

Joy Is Your Only Job pre-orders available now at www.JessicaSantonato.com/the-book

For those in the Toronto area, you have a great opportunity to see and hear Jessica speak at an upcoming event. I’ll be in attendance, so please be sure to stop by and say hello! TEDx – Trinity Bellwoods Women

The Choice is Yours.

Whether or not you choose to apply yourself to this specific initiative …remember, the change starts with you. It’s easy to sit back, do nothing, and criticize. Now, more than ever, the world needs people to stand up and do their part. I hope you choose wisely.
